Tidal Power
Also called ocean energy, ocean power or marine hydrokinetic energy (MHK) – covers the technologies by which energy can be gained from the seas, oceans and rivers of the world.
Tidal energy generation is a form of renewable energy that harnesses the movement of water caused by tides (the rise and fall of sea levels) to generate electricity. It typically uses underwater turbines, similar to wind turbines but submerged in water, or other mechanisms like barrages (large dams) and tidal lagoons to capture the energy produced by tidal movements.

How Tidal Energy Works:
-
Tidal Stream Systems: These use underwater turbines placed in areas with fast-moving tidal currents. As the tides flow in and out, the turbines spin, generating electricity.
-
Tidal Range Systems: These systems capture the difference in water height between high and low tides using a barrage or dam to store water and release it through turbines to generate power as water flows through.
-
Tidal Lagoons: These are enclosed areas in coastal regions where tidal water is trapped and released to drive turbines.

Benefits of Tidal Energy for Businesses:
-
Sustainable and Renewable Energy: Tidal energy is a clean, renewable energy source, which means businesses using it can reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to environmental sustainability.
-
Predictable Energy Source: Unlike solar or wind power, which can be intermittent, tidal movements are highly predictable and occur consistently. This allows businesses to rely on tidal energy for stable power generation.
-
Cost Savings in the Long Term: Though the initial investment in tidal energy infrastructure can be high, businesses can benefit from lower operating costs over time since tidal energy requires less maintenance and has long-term reliability.
-
Energy Independence: Businesses can reduce their reliance on traditional energy sources, which are subject to price fluctuations. Tapping into tidal energy allows for more control over energy costs.
-
Enhance Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): By adopting tidal energy, businesses can improve their reputation as environmentally responsible organizations, which can be attractive to customers, investors, and partners focused on sustainability.
-
Job Creation and Innovation: Investing in tidal energy infrastructure can create local job opportunities and foster innovation in clean energy technologies, benefiting communities and industries involved in renewable energy.
-
Tax Incentives and Grants: Many governments offer tax breaks, incentives, or grants for businesses that invest in renewable energy projects like tidal energy. This can significantly offset the initial costs of installation and operations.
